Thoughts on Mike Ritland
Amazingly enough, I agree with Helser TJ almost 100% on his evaluation of Mike Ritland
IMO, Mike Ritland as a dog trainer, goes like this: He is great at marketing, supported by the aura of him being SEAL as if everyone who was LE or SF or SEAL would automatically be an expert dog trainer. His training is just a cookie-cutter sportism. He also presents a great charismatic image - Oakleys and all...
Helser TJ's opinion.
....try actually looking into his real resume; you will see he had nothing to do with dogs when he was in the military. He was an underwater demo diver; he saw a dog in the military with the Marines and decided then after the military to be a trainer; also, many of us have worked with military dogs here in the USA and abroad, special forces dogs as well. I have, as well as sold dogs to police and military in the USA.
FYI, most USA police and military dogs are sport washouts, not all but 90% of them, and have been since the beginning. Yes, he has written books. Been on podcasts and worked some dogs in the military as well. Doesn't mean he is what I would call a trainer. He has a good marketing team behind him and is doing his thing. But when it comes to knowing correct training, what he is actually saying by what you posted is 100% of Europe is wrong in their training; funny bc I can show you military and police, and special forces dogs launching into the grips. So for him to say it's wrong, maybe he should look at his lack of skills to teach it properly bc the rest of the world does
